The Drum Cafe was started in Johannesburg in 1996 by Warren Lieberman. It started as an actual Cafe where drumming was used in a relaxed environment to break down barriers, inspire people and bring people together. Moved by the experience of communal drumming in Africa, and the passion to unite different groups of people together in South Africa’s post apartheid era, Warren Liebermann developed a global team building and entertainment program along with leading motivational speakers, team builders and Africa’s top drummers.

Danny Aaron- Drum Cafe Canada

Born in South Africa emigrated to Canada in 1979.
Spent 10 years primarily in the ski industry specializing in athlete development coaching ski teams in Whistler and around BC.

In 1993, Danny with business partner Dan Isserow, opened a chain of fast food restaurants in Vancouver called Nando's.

In 1997 Danny sold his share in the national Nando's operation and opened a chain of male impotence clinics across Canada.

In 1998 he moved to Sydney, Australia where he ran a chain of 50 impotence clinics similar to the operation he started in Canada. The Australian company saw an average of 65 000 patients per year.

In 2001, Danny moved back to South Africa, where he marketed the Drum Cafe theater production - "Drumstruck" to the international market, before turning the very successful Drum Cafe organization into an international franchise.

Danny now heads Drum Cafe Canada as well as the North American expansion of the Drum Cafe franchise and heads up the Pacific Northwest.

Munkie has been drumming since the age of 7 and for the most part he is self-taught. His natural talent of drumming and percussion has made him a very successful Master Drummer and has played for a wide variety of Dance Companies, bands and solo performances throughout South Africa, Canada and Europe and is the star performer for the Drum Cafe theater production -

Munkie is regarded as one of South Africa’s top ethnic drummers as well as one of the best drum teachers in South Africa. As a master percussionist Munkie has toured Amsterdam, Germany, Austria, Italy and Canada.
Munkie, specifically has a passion for teaching children at a very early age, through to adults, and is exceptionally good at facilitating drum therapy work shops for the physically impaired, mentally handicapped, the old aged and especially corporate facilitation.

Having been one of the initial employees at the Drum Cafe in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1996, Munkie has been an integral member of the team helping to steer the company to become the success it is today.
Munkie has spent the last seven years perfecting the facilitation of the Drum Cafe and has trained all the facilitators, master drummers, employees and future franchisees around South Africa and the world.

The focus is not on the company's facilitators, but rather on the audience. Warren is the pioneer of interactive drumming. Warren elaborates, "Each individual is important to the group. The Drum Cafe's interactive drumming allows everyone to feel motivated and rewarded because their involvement contributes to the success. Groups can achieve so much more. They can create "music" in every way if they work efficiently together."

The Heart of Africa

Warren Liebermann's drum Cafe remains one of the most significant organizations dedicated to promoting authentic African music to the world. The Drum Cafe has embarked on a range of projects aimed at preserving and protecting the South African heritage, including the Drum Cafe Book, Traditional Music of South Africa and the Drum Cafe's Traditional African Orchestra.
