Rukmali went to her first West African drumming class in 2001 and has been hooked ever since. She enjoys the energy that African percussion and dance brings to people. She feels fortunate to be a member of the amazing Winnipeg Drum Cafe family!

Ruk moved to Winnipeg from Sri Lanka and started taking drumming classes in 2001 so she can meet new people. She has enjoyed drumming ever since and continues to learn and play African percussion. Ruk feels very fortunate to have made many life long friendships with people that she met through drumming. She has studied percussion under Richard Fontaine, Jordan Hanson, and Yamoussa Bangoura.
Besides playing with friends in Drum Cafe, Ruk is also a member of local drumming group, Chango.
